Okay, it wasn’t actually in the trash can, my mother keeps stressing. (It was in the recycling bin.) But to me, it’s all about the same because they were throwing them away. Or shredding them up.
So, look what I found behind the local elementary school in the recycling bin!!

I thought the baby would add all sorts of environmental things to write about. Not so. She’s made relatively little difference in our green lifestyle.
These days the first thing out of my mouth when I stand in front of any cashier isn’t, “Hello, How are you?” I don’t have time to say that. If I don’t practically jump over the counter at the same time they ring me up with, “I don’t need a bag,” they are simply too fast and my product swings slowly from side to side in an unwanted plastic bag, my own canvas bag either in my hand or hanging on my shoulder. Right there in front of them. Right there ready to be used. Right there!!!
Since we’ve been married, I’ve tried to do this one and it’s working out well!
We branched out from composting food scraps and organic matter. We started adding paper to the compost about a year ago. My hubby thought if we shredded the heck out of it, it might compost faster. He was right!
We’ve started buying 100% grass-fed beef.
Thought I’d try out that new grass-fed beef with the meatloaf recipe and see how it did.
This easy video from Patti Moreno, The Garden Girl is the simplest video I’ve found so far. The vermi compost she explains here is perfect for those who live in the city or in an apartment and can’t keep a bin or have a huge pile outside, but want their own compost soil. It’s also great for frequent military moves, if you’re only going to be in a place for a few months to a year. This is how to make it:
We’d always read NOT to do this but yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are putting weeds in the compost!
