Good trash week.

Just fish packaging, really. But we discovered how to beat that!

The Garden of Eatin’ expanded from the tented stall at the local farmer’s market to a small store open Thursday-Sunday. And they sell fresh fish! No more fish packaging! Now we’re getting our shrimp fresh and our fish! Good eatin’ and no blasted plastic.

Next week, hopefully our trash will look  more like this:

Now, to rid the Triscuit packaging, and start making my own crackers with ground white wheat…..stay tuned! I bought the ingredients, now to just DO IT!

  1. What are you carrying your fish back home in? I’m curious.

    • Heidi, we’ve found the shrimp vendors are more than happy to let us bring our own containers.(Though they always want to wrap our plastic/glass containers in Wal-mart bags so they won’t “drip,” which I’ve found very thoughtful but not necessary. I throw the container in the cooler and rinse the cooler out once I get home. The fresh fish though (to my disappointment) seems to be flash- frozen in a nice little plastic, vaccum bag. (Is that how you spell vacuum? vaccum. You know what I mean!!)

  2. I’m amazed. I don’t know how you do it.

  3. I’m excited to see how the crackers turn out! Sounds so neat!

  4. You are an inspiration, Jennirfer!

  5. @ Heidi, Libby, Katie and Juwannadoright–
Thanks ladies. That was a good week. When we had family visiting, it wasn’t so empty. We’re still only throwing out about a Wal-mart bag full of trash about every 6 weeks to 2 months. I had no idea it would be so darn easy. The only pain in the bootie is trying to find food in bulk. I shopped at Costco with my in-laws over Christmas only to discover some of the contents in the “big boxes” were individualy packaged! Auck! We live and learn, but sometimes I am so ready to give up and move to England or Canada. My husband says the west coast would be a bit closer…. 🙂
    Thanks for the support!

Tell me what you think. I don't get to answer comments like I did before baby but I read every single comment. And they really make my day!
